An opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Trauma (Orthopaedic) Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Trauma & Orthopaedic team at Basildon Hospital. You will primarily work with all Orthopaedic patients admitted to hospital, including patients waiting at home for admission, and to be involved in their care throughout their hospital journey. The key role is to ensure that high-quality care that is evidence-based is delivered to all patients in this group and to champion best practice throughout the patient's journey to ensure the patients achieve the best possible outcomes.
Working as part of a rostered service covering 7 days per week you will be expected to work both independently and as part of the Trauma CNS Team at Basildon. You will develop strong working relationships with the Consultant Surgeons, Consultant Ortho-Geriatrician, Trauma CNS Team, Fractured Neck of Femur Specialist nurse and the wider Orthopaedic nursing team. Be able to independently prioritise effectively and proactively and will be expected to see patients across the whole hospital.

- Co-ordinate the care of Orthopaedic patients from ED through to discharge, including ensuring proactive preparation for theatre to ensure timely surgery
- Attend daily ward rounds with the Consultant Surgeon to review all patients pre/post-operatively
- Assist in woundcare and other clinical requirements of the patient group as required
- Maintaining reporting to external agencies as required with data from all patients admitted to Basildon
- Teaching of staff groups in specialty area
- Monitor NOF pathway compliance and engage with the NOF Nurse and wider team to develop improvements in this pathway
- Present data collected at monthly Governance and Audit meetings
- Provide teaching, and specialist support to the wider team on Traction, Vac and PICO
- Use advanced clinical history taking, clinical examination and interpretation skills to assess patient’s needs in terms of diagnosis and treatment plans.
- Physically assess patients as required, ensuring effective patient management plans are created and carried out in a timely manner, reviewing medication and recommending changes in conjunction with consultant / medical colleagues.
