Our Basildon Emergency Department is looking to recruit a full-time Patient Flow Co-ordinator to join their well-established team, to facilitate the smooth running of the patient journey by ensuring that coordinated and streamlined administrative processes revolve around the patient and their individual needs.

Your role will provide administrative support to all clinical staff within the clinical area including Consultants and Nurses, to ensure effective working. You will be required to monitor patient activity and flow within the Emergency Department, working in partnership with the Nurse in charge and Site Managers. You will maintain up-to-date and accurate computer-based records for patient flow, chase and elevate delays in the patients' emergency pathway, e.g. ensure diagnostic tests are ordered and carried out at appropriate times to aid in clinical decision making including discharge and admission.

All applicants must be able to participate in a full shift pattern including long days, early's, twilights, late's, nights, weekends and bank holidays. Previous applicants need not apply. No VISA sponsorship available for this role.

Your role will support with answering the phones and dealing with requests for information, whilst maintaining confidentiality, greet and assist relatives/carers when needed, relay messages to other members of staff and work in partnership with other BTUH members of staff to ensure the timely discharge or transfer of patients out of the Emergency Department.

You will monitor and maintain patient flow by means of the Emergency Department patient management system (EPR / Medway), ensuring all information regarding patients' progress is recorded accurately and in a timely fashion, chase any outstanding reports or appointments to ensure excellent patient experience and timeliness of reporting, and constantly check for patients' results and inform the relevant nursing/medical staff of any developments.

You will be required to ensure that the patient’s location is constantly updated, book any ambulance transport that may be required, liaise with the Discharge lounge if patients can go there to wait for transport, liaise with ambulance control regarding the progress of transport home, record outcomes of any discussions in the EPR record and provide, and if necessary, present information for ED into the Trust bed meetings.
