Active Barnsley is a registered local charity dedicated to improving physical and mental health, sports performance, and active lifestyles across the Barnsley community.

Based at Shaw Lane Sports Club, Active Barnsley works alongside schools, community groups, and local authorities to deliver accessible health based activities.

Apprentice Sports Coach will complete Level 2 customer service with Barnsley College whilst coaching.

Working in partnership with Barnsley Metropolitan Council, we currently deliver Bikeability, the government-recognized cycle training programme in the UK, designed to teach children and adults the skills and confidence required to cycle safely on modern roads.

Often described as the 21st-century evolution of "cycling proficiency," the scheme aims to get more people cycling, more safely, and more often.

We employ a team of Community Activity And Development Coaches and Active Delivery Team Coaches to deliver projects across Barnsley, working with Barnsley Council, The Bikeability Trust and a range of funders and grant providers.

Current workload includes the delivery of Bikeability Levels 1-3, Learn To Ride Cycle programmes, School Sport PE, Holiday Club Activities (HAF) and community based healthy initiative programmes.

To undertake the 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training Bikeability training course which woud ten require delivery of the the programme in primary and secondary schools across Barnsley on a daily basis.

For these sessions you will always work as a pair.

To deliver a wide range of sport and physical activities to a variety of different groups in various settings such as schools, holiday clubs and community groups.

Every school holiday, we currently deliver the HAF programme.

Assist with the pickup and drop off of bikes at schools and different community settings on a weekly basis. Be willing to Undertake any other staff training.

To assist staff in the day to day administration necessary to ensure the smooth running of all areas of the Charity, making sure all deadlines are met.

Assist in the production, collation and recording of information for monitoring and evaluation purposes.

Provision of general administrative support.

Represent Active Barnsley in a positive manner and strive to enhance the reputation of the business at all times,

  • Upon completing the Bikeability training, whilst working in pairs deliver Bikeability Levels 1-3 which includes both on road and playground cycle training, supporting pupil groups and promoting safe cycling
  • Assist in the delivery of children Learn To Ride sessions
  • Assist coaches delivering PE lessons, helping set up equipment, supporting pupils, and ensuring safe, positive participation
  • Help communicate with school staff, manage registers, and support smooth delivery of sessions
  • As part of the team, deliver and assist and the HAF school holiday camps and any other community events and multi sport sessions.
  • Assist with bookings for Bikeability, holiday camps, PE services, and community sessions.
  • Support social media updates and email communications.
  • Help with community events, multi sport sessions, and holiday activities
  • Promote and represent Active Barnsley in reliable and positive manor throughout.
  • Be punctual at all times, meeting staff and varies schools or pick points accordingly.
  • Adhere to and support and report all health and safety and safeguarding concerns.
  • Attend team meetings
  • Be willing to commute to different schools and community setting across the Borough.
  • Complete any CPD training

For the right candidate there will be the opportunity to progress into a full-time role (funding dependant).
