Epsom & St Helier Hospital are looking for a full-time senior cardiographer to join via bank. The post holder should be able to work cross-site.

Working hours:

  • Tuesday and Thursday: 08:30-16:30
  • Monday and Wednesday: 08:15-16:30
  • Friday: 08:30-16:00

Responsibilities:

  • To undertake the recording and interpretation of electrocardiograms (ECGs), within the department and throughout the hospital as required.
  • The postholder will undertake a competency-based training and assessment programme within the department for ECG and be able to demonstrate recognition of the main cardiac arrhythmias and basic electrocardiography instrumentation and troubleshooting technical faults.
  • The postholder should hold the Society for Cardiological Science and Technology Certificate in Electrocardiography or equivalent in-house assessment.
  • To provide explanation and reassurance to patients undergoing routine non-invasive cardiac investigations and to assist patients with dressing and undressing.
  • To fit and remove 24-hour ambulatory ECG monitors.
  • To fit, upload/download, and report event recorders.
  • To undertake preventative maintenance of ECG and ambulatory ECG recorders and exercise testing equipment.

The Cardiology Department offers a variety of non-invasive Cardiological Investigations which include electrocardiograms (ECG), the fitting of 24hr Holter Monitors and unsupervised exercise tests for both in-patients and out-patients. The Department also offers an open access service of these investigations to the local General Practitioners.

Service quality and efficiency:

  • To demonstrate flexibility in working and an awareness of the needs and priorities of co-workers, coordinating and cooperating with other health care professionals.
  • To be proactive in establishing practices that improve quality of care and efficiency as applied to non-invasive technical workload and administrative workload.
  • To undertake work in a timely and efficient way, meeting deadlines and keeping colleagues informed of changes in own technical workload.
  • To maintain clinical documentation and databases as directed, and to be responsible for establishing practices which promote high standards of record keeping with respect to accuracy, timeliness of completion, and confidentiality.
  • To exercise initiative and judgement in solving problems related to own technical workload, whilst keeping others informed.

The post holder should be able to maneuver ECG carts within the clinical area. They will be expected to move patients in wheelchairs and should be able to assist with the manual handling of patients with limited mobility whilst adhering to the departmental and Trust protocols and policies at all times.

Administrative:

  • To help organise the daily operating service of the Department.
  • To help ensure that adequate stock levels of consumables are maintained.
  • To demonstrate an awareness of the importance of efficient stock usage.
  • To perform a range of clerical duties as required including making appointments, filing investigation reports, and dealing with patient enquiries.
