As a Pharmacist, you will be responsible for the provision of exceptional professional pharmacy services. The focus of your role will be to act as Responsible Pharmacist, provide support to the rest of the pharmacy team and support the development of the business. You will help in ensuring a high quality patient and customer experience is maintained. The post holder will be part of a high performing team that is expected to demonstrate behaviours that promote the pharmacies and Royal Free London NHS Trust's world class values. This means that in undertaking this role the post holder is expected at all times to behave in a way that demonstrates commitment to the delivery of respectful and compassionate care across all sites.
The Senior Bank Pharmacist assists the section lead pharmacist in managing and coordinating their respective clinical section. This includes the responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day provision of ward pharmacy services, including allocation of staff and provision of cover in the event of sickness. Other duties include:
- Leading on the training and induction of clinical pharmacy staff, ensuring they are adequately trained and supported to carry out their duties.
- Deputising for the section lead pharmacist in their absence.
- Collaborating with other senior staff to ensure the delivery of an integrated pharmacy service, assisting with the implementation strategic plans for the development of the Chase Farm site.
- Participating in medicine related clinical audit, research and development and development of trust-wide guidelines.
The post holder will be determined as a Band 8a bank pharmacist, should they have evidence of the following:
- Completion of Clinical Diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of the Trusts Essential Leadership Modules (ELM) or equivalent.
- Conducted a service development.
- Formally line managed staff with evidence of objective setting and appraisal.
- Evidence of teaching.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
To lead the provision of a high quality clinical pharmacy service as part of the multidisciplinary team to CFH patients, to ensure maximum efficacy, safety and economic drug use and to demonstrate professional accountability to enhance patient care. The responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in the planning and delivery of a clinical pharmacy service.
- To ensure development of patient group directions and other relevant policies and guidelines.
- Delivery of a high quality, specialist ward based pharmacy service including medicines reconciliation, drug supply, review of highly complex medication regimens, interaction monitoring, adverse drug reaction monitoring and discharge planning.
- Promotion of high quality cost-effective prescribing.
- Ensuring compliance with Trusts policies including medicines policy, formulary and microbiology policies.
- Making evidence based decisions, in partnership with patients and other professionals within the specialist area.
- Making clinical decisions where limited information is available.
- Development and review of Patient Group Directions.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR PATIENTS
To assist in identifying and managing changes necessary to maintain a high quality clinical pharmacy service responsive to patients needs and to consider the implications of changes for other areas/personnel. To ensure timely supply of medicines for discharge to reduce any delays / bed blocking. To oversee the clinical safety of dispensing functions for off-site units and external parties. To deal effectively with situations where medication errors have occurred, including liaising directly with the patients and staff concerned.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR LEADING AND MANAGING
The post-holder will be responsible for maintaining their professional responsibilities and for identifying and addressing their own developmental needs. They are also expected to contribute to the learning and development of other members of the health-care team. Overall these responsibilities include:
- To manage the day-to-day provision of ward pharmacy services within specified section. This will include allocation of the workload, dealing sickness absence and managing annual leave.
- To provide cover for pharmacist colleagues during their absence.
- To deputise for the section lead pharmacist in their absence.
- To assist in managing, appraising and supporting the development of the Band 6 and 7 pharmacists.
