The Pharmacy Manufacturing department is primarily concerned with the preparation and supply of medicines to internal and external customers. The key area within the department that the post holder will be responsible for is the Chemotherapy units at both the Royal Free Hospital and Barnet Hospital site. Barnet Hospital (BH) Pharmacy Production Unit operates under a section 10 license; the Royal Free Hospital (RFH) Production Unit works under a ‘specials’ manufacturers licence.
The post holder will ensure that production services are delivered in a safe, effective, economic and timely manner. The post holder will be responsible for the training and supervision of all technical staff within the designated areas and ensuring that all documentation/procedures comply with current legislation. The post holder will collaborate with the other Operations Chief Technician to maximise pharmacy departmental resources. Overall the post holder will be responsible for the training, accreditation, management and safety of staff working in the unit, whether on a short term, or long term basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and be responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day delivery of the Chemotherapy production service at Barnet Hospital and Royal Free Hospital, ensuring compliance with all current regulatory standards.
- Develop and maintain all controlled documentation such as worksheets and standard operating procedures, in liaison with the Operational Lead Pharmacist and Quality Assurance.
- Ensure that all relevant documentation is reviewed regularly, updated as necessary, and that out-of-date documentation is removed from circulation.
- Undertake worksheet checks and post-make checking before transfer to the final checking and releasing pharmacist.
- Become involved with final checking and releasing of aseptically prepared and outsourced SACT products.
- Ensure all quality exceptions and deviations from SOPs are reported to Quality Assurance, documented appropriately, and resolved in a timely fashion.
- Ensure that all environmental monitoring is carried out at the required time and frequency, by appropriately trained staff.
The post-holder works cross-site between Barnet and Royal Free production units and in future any other NHS hospitals that join the Group Model. If in future the services are rationalised to one site, then the post holder will be expected to work from that base.
