This post will be fixed term/secondment for 23 months in the National Amyloidosis Centre.
The nurse will be responsible for the following
- support review of patient medical assessments
- help with clinic flow
- deal with less complex Patient queries
- Conducting assessments before and after the Review Appointment
- e. g., blood tests, ECG, 6MWT
- follow up with the patient to understand the impact of any intervention
- and assess if subsequent or further changes are needed (e. g. titration of diuretic dose)
Due to the number of Relevant Patients and wide variation of disease presentation across such patients (e. g., severity, complexity and Patient support needs), workload will be triaged and split across the ATTR nurse, clinical fellow and HCA.
The nurse will not be involved in any decision relating to the management or treatment of a Patient.
- Placement of indwelling peripheral venous lines for intravenous administration of radio labelled SAP tracer and blood sampling, requiring outstanding venepuncture & cannulation skills.
- The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the speciality.
- To be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of direct patient care with supervision from senior staff.
- To support the Lead nurse/Clinic Sister to monitor the safety and quality of care for patients.
- To be responsible for the day-to-day management of the outpatient clinics.
- To manage a group of Nursing Assistants and assign delegated tasks and responsibility as appropriate.
- To ensure the compliance of mandatory training and appraisal requirements for delegated Nursing Assistants.
- To ensure a positive focussed service incorporating patients’ feedback to maintain and improve patient care.
- To act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice.
