Responsibilities:
- Dealing with enquiries from all parts of the hospital.
- Contributing towards the development of trainee clinical coders.
- Acting as a mentor to and assisting with training.
- Working as part of a team of experienced trained and trainee staff.
- Abstracting and analysing clinical information from a variety of electronic source documents, including complex patient records, electronic discharge summaries, and letters across a broad range of clinical specialties.
- Translating this into a coded format in line with National Clinical Coding standards, using ICD10 and OPCS4 classifications.
- Entering coded data into appropriate computer systems.
- Clarifying all queries and discrepancies with clinical staff as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrable Clinical Coding experience gained within the UK NHS healthcare setting.
- Completion of recognised UK Clinical Coding training and possession of relevant coding qualifications/training.
