We are looking for a Senior Health Care Support Worker to join our large Outpatients Department, which is part of the West Hertfordshire NHS Trust, based at St Albans Hospital, and sees approximately 78,000–80,000 patients per year. These hours will comprise of 4 days per week, 08:00–18:00, which will be allocated Monday to Friday.

We are looking for an individual who is extremely hard-working, patient-focused, and able to work to deliver the best care to our patients. You will need to be a motivated, enthusiastic, organised, and knowledgeable leader who enjoys working within a large team of all bands, including Student Nurses at all levels. Full-time and part-time vacancies are available; further details will be discussed at interview.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting and chaperoning patients attending clinics in the Outpatients Department.
  • Setting up and overseeing clinics of varied specialities.
  • Assisting the Registered Nurse with specified clinical activities.
  • Preparing and undertaking agreed clinical activities with patients in clinics under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.
  • Preparing and maintaining the environment for clinical activity.
  • Maintaining the privacy, dignity, and individuality of the patients at all times.
  • Being flexible in the performance of the post, particularly regarding clinics, hours, and OPD site, and carrying out any other reasonable duties as requested by senior staff.

We offer a 5-day service to all of our patients. We have 22 different clinics within our department, each requiring different skills to run effectively. Safeguarding all of our patients is of the utmost importance, and we offer a chaperone for every patient if there is a need. The post holder would promote the safe delivery of care to all of our patients, providing leadership within the clinical area and being able to lead by example. Continual development and updating of skills is an essential part of our role as Senior Healthcare Assistants to accommodate an ever-changing service.
