School Health Assistant | Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust
Children and Young Peoples services are looking to recruit a School Health Assistant to support the school nursing service and School Age Immunisation Service (SAIS).
You will work term time only in schools in Aylesbury and the surrounding areas and be based at Rayner's Hedge/Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
You may be required to travel to other sites based on service needs.
You will help deliver a high quality service in schools with the delivery of the National Child Measuring Programme (NCMP)/vision screening and support BHT Schools Immunisation Team deliver the childhood vaccination programme.
Experience of working in the community and /or with children is desirable. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
The role of the School Health Assistant involves weighing and measuring children in Reception and year 6 to deliver the NCMP and vision screening programme for 4-5 year olds and occasional hearing tests in schools.
You will be contributing to local and national targets for school health screening and be expected to communicate your findings to parents and excellent communication skills are essential.
You will receive training in brief interventions and Making Every Contact Count (MECC) to support you in your role.
Additionally, you will be supporting the School Aged Immunisation Programme throughout the nasal flu immunisation schedule in schools and making contact with parent/carers regarding immunisation consent.
Good IT skills are necessary to ensure accurate data collection and record keeping as we use online tools to undertake our screening programmes.
With internal training, you will be expected to have an understanding of your requirements in the safeguarding of children whilst receiving a high level of professional support and regular clinical supervision.
