An established public sector organisation is seeking an Assistant Secretary to join its governance team on an interim basis.

Supporting the Board and its committees, this role offers the opportunity to work at the centre of the organisation, partnering closely with senior stakeholders and leadership teams.

Reporting to the Board Secretary, the successful individual will join a small, supportive team responsible for delivering a professional secretariat function.

The role provides significant exposure to board-level activity, governance processes, and strategic decision-making, making it an excellent opportunity for an experienced governance or secretariat professional.

Responsibilities

  • Provided secretariat support to three executive-level committees, including meeting and event planning, agenda coordination, commissioning papers, managing logistics, minute-taking, and tracking actions.
  • Supported the Board Secretary in the coordination and delivery of Board meetings, ensuring effective governance processes and smooth meeting management.
  • Assisted in the implementation and continuous improvement of governance frameworks, systems, and organisational processes.
  • Contributed to a range of internal projects, including onboarding and induction programmes for senior stakeholders.
  • Coordinated meetings and provided comprehensive administrative support across a wider corporate governance team.
  • Demonstrated a flexible and proactive approach, supporting additional business priorities and undertaking varied responsibilities to ensure organisational objectives were met.
  • What you'll need to succeed

Prior experience as a Personal or Executive Assistant or Assistant Board Secretary within the civil service or governmental organisation is a necessity for this role.
