We have an excellent opportunity for a motivated and well-organised individual to join our team as an Assistant Medical Secretary within the Rheumatology Department at York Hospital. Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to provide secretarial support to the Rheumatology Consultants and the wider clinical teams.
Excellent administration/secretarial skills and audio-typing experience/qualifications are required, together with demonstrable customer service skills and experience. You will be involved in supporting a busy clinical service, gaining exposure to complex medical terminology and developing a strong understanding of pathways and patient care processes. This is an opportunity to build your administrative skills within a supportive and collaborative team while contributing to the effective and efficient running of a fast-paced clinical department.
You will be responsible for:
- Typing clinical and administrative letters.
- Answering telephone enquiries from patients, GPs, and colleagues from within the Trust.
- Utilising strong administrative and audio-typing skills to produce accurate clinical correspondence.
- Printing, processing, transmitting, and distributing patient correspondence and results letters, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Offering cross-cover and administrative support to Medical Secretaries across the wider Rheumatology Department when required.
- Undertaking a range of general administrative and office duties to support the efficient day-to-day running of the service.
- Maintaining effective communication with members of the medical secretary team and wider staff.
- Adhering to strict standards of confidentiality, data protection, and professionalism at all times.
- Communicating clearly and professionally with patients, demonstrating a confident and courteous telephone manner.
