About the role
As a Job Coach, you will play a vital role in helping young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) take their first steps into the world of work.
Working as part of our Foundation Department, you will identify, secure and support meaningful work placements that enable students to develop confidence, independence and employability skills, with the ultimate goal of progressing into paid employment.
The role is highly varied and combines employer engagement, student support, coaching and advocacy.
You will spend time building relationships with local employers, promoting the benefits of inclusive employment and identifying placement opportunities ranging from one-day-per-week work experience placements to six-month supported internships.
You will prepare students for the workplace through individual and small-group sessions, support them in the workplace to develop their skills and independence, provide travel training where required, and act as a key link between employers, parents/carers and college staff.
Much of the role is community-based, requiring travel between placement locations throughout the day.
You will often work independently and must be confident managing your own workload and priorities.
- What we are looking for
- An excellent communicator who can adapt your communication style to suit a wide range of audiences.
- Skilled at listening, building trust and developing positive professional relationships.
- Confident, persuasive and able to engage employers in conversations about inclusive recruitment and the benefits of employing young people with SEND.
- Highly organised and able to manage a varied workload while working independently.
- A strong problem-solver who can think creatively to overcome barriers and find solutions.
- Resilient, tenacious and positive, even when faced with setbacks or rejection.
- Comfortable delivering small group workshops and providing one-to-one coaching and support.
- Committed to helping young people develop confidence, independence and workplace skills.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Commitment to supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes.
Desirable
- Experience working with young people, particularly those with SEND.
- Experience in recruitment, sales, customer engagement, employer engagement, coaching, careers guidance or HR.
- Knowledge of supported internships, employability programmes or inclusive employment practices.
- Why This Role Matters
Fewer than 6% of adults with learning disabilities are currently in paid employment, despite many having the skills, motivation and potential to succeed in the workplace.
As a Job Coach, you will help challenge perceptions, create opportunities and support young people to achieve greater independence and life-changing outcomes.
Every placement secured, every barrier overcome and every student's success story has the potential to transform a future.
