An opportunity has arisen for a flexible and enthusiastic Level 4 Teaching Assistant based in the Tuition Service at Ty Castan with a peripatetic element. Ty Gwyn Education Centre is a secondary age Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) located in a newly refurbished building in the Aberdare area, serving the whole of RCT and learners from age 11 to 16 years. Ty Castan is the base for the Tuition Service and located in the centre of Pontypridd.
Learners in the Tuition Service are a mixture of full and part time and access a broad and balanced curriculum of core subjects (English, Maths and Science) and a range of vocational and foundation subjects. There is a growing emphasis on developing learner wellbeing and mental health, and Ty Gwyn/Ty Castan are trauma informed settings with strong mental health and wellbeing support for learners placed there. This post is an essential part of strengthening this aspect of the service.
The post holder will be required to complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under an agreed system of supervision. This may involve planning, preparing and delivering learning activities for individuals/groups or short term for whole classes and monitoring pupils and assessing, recording and reporting on learners’ achievement, progress and development. There will also be the requirement to develop and implement appropriate social and emotional interventions and support strategies alongside interventions and support for learners on a planned and responsive basis.
Applications will close on Wednesday 2nd September 2026. Should you require further information about the post, please contact Victoria Cox-Wall, Head of Centre.
