Your mission is to join our growing engineering team as a skilled fire alarm and fire suppression designer and estimator with 5 years of experience.
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Estimator & Design Engineer specialising in Fire Alarm and Fire Suppression Systems. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating, designing, and preparing technical documentation for commercial, industrial, and residential fire protection projects. This role requires strong technical knowledge of fire protection standards, proficiency in AutoCAD, and the ability to produce accurate cost estimates and system designs that comply with applicable British Standards and client specifications.
Estimating- Review project specifications, drawings, and tender documents.
- Prepare accurate cost estimates and competitive proposals for fire alarm and fire suppression systems.
- Carry out site surveys.
- Perform material take-offs and labour calculations.
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Analyse project risks, costs, and scheduling requirements.
- Support project managers during project handover and execution.
- Design fire alarm and suppression systems in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
- Produce detailed system layouts and installation drawings using AutoCAD.
- Prepare equipment schedules and technical submissions.
- Coordinate system designs with architects, consultants, engineers, and contractors.
- Ensure all designs meet client specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Review and revise drawings based on client comments and site conditions.
- Provide engineering support during installation, testing, and commissioning.
- Conduct site surveys and collect project information.
- Assist with value engineering to optimise system performance and project costs.
- Respond to technical queries from clients, consultants, and contractors.
- Maintain project documentation and design records.

Software Requirements: AutoCAD (mandatory), Bluebeam, Microsoft Office; Revit/BIM experience is an advantage.
Your profile Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related discipline. Minimum 5 years of proven experience in estimating and designing fire alarm and fire suppression systems. Proficiency in AutoCAD for preparing detailed engineering drawings. Strong understanding of BS5839 Part 1 and Part 6, BSEN15004 and knowledge of LPS1204 and the Bafe schemes. Experience with hydraulic calculations and fire suppression system design is an advantage. Knowledge of fire alarm systems from major manufacturers such as Notifier, Kentec, Gent and Advanced Electronics. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook). Excellent analytical, communication, and organisational skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines. Valid driving license.
Preferred Skills: Experience with a wide range of gas suppression systems. Familiarity with BIM/Revit is an advantage. Familiarity with Autodesk Construction Cloud now called Forma. Familiarity with Simpro estimating software. Strong negotiation and vendor management skills. Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Experience working with consultants, contractors, and government authorities.
