Role Overview
We are on the lookout for a Networks Operations Centre (NOC) Engineer to join our growing team. The NOC Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the uninterrupted operation of APFN network. They are responsible for monitoring network performance, identifying and resolving issues, and collaborating with various teams to maintain high-quality service for customers. This role demands a proactive approach to network management, strong technical skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure, particularly in critical situations like network outages.
Responsibilities
- Working in shifts pattern 4 On, 4 off, 12 hours shift rota.
- Continuously monitoring the APFN network infrastructure, including switches, routers, servers, and other network equipment, to ensure optimal performance and availability.
- Detecting network faults, outages, and performance degradation and promptly responding to incidents by implementing necessary troubleshooting procedures.
- Diagnosing and resolving network issues in a timely and efficient manner, identifying the root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Maintaining comprehensive records of network events, incidents, and resolutions via Incident tickets on SNOW.
- Updating network diagrams, logs, and documentation as necessary.
- Conducting routine maintenance tasks, including firmware upgrades, patch management, and hardware replacements to prevent potential issues and improve network reliability.
- Working closely with APFN internal teams to ensure seamless communication and resolution of complex issues.
- Providing support for network engineers, system administrators, and other related professionals.
- Analysing network performance data and implementing improvements to optimise the network's performance and capacity.
- Assisting in maintaining network security by following security policies, applying best practices, and promptly addressing security incidents or breaches.
- Utilising network monitoring and management tools (e.g. SNMP, NMS, and ticketing systems) to track network performance and automate routine tasks.

- Analytical and problem-solving abilities, demonstrated through practical experience and a commitment to finding effective solutions.

- Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools, applied in a responsible and efficient manner.
- Familiarity with telecommunications equipment and technologies is considered an advantage, supporting adaptability in specialised environments.
- Proficiency in core network technologies, protocols and concepts, including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, and MPLS, with an emphasis on maintaining secure and reliable systems.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g. Computer Science, Information Technology) or equivalent work experience.
Desirable
- Professional certifications (e.g. Cisco CCNA, CCNP or equivalent) are an advantage but not a strict requirement.
