Role Overview
The Material Planner plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of production by securing the timely availability of materials while optimising inventory levels. This role supports both NPI and serial production environments, balancing demand, supply constraints, and operational priorities. The Material Planner collaborates cross‑functionally with Procurement, Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure material flow supports business objectives, cost targets, and delivery performance. The role requires strong analytical capability, ownership of material planning processes, and a proactive approach to resolving shortages, improving supplier performance, and maintaining data integrity within ERP/MRP systems.
Responsibilities
- Planning & Material Control
- Develop and maintain material plans aligned with production schedules and demand forecasts
- Translate MRP outputs into actionable supply plans and purchase requirements
- Ensure material availability to support uninterrupted production
- Monitor and manage material shortages, excess, and obsolescence risks
- Balance demand variability, lead times, and capacity constraints
- Inventory Management
- Maintain optimal inventory levels in line with stock policies and working capital targets
- Analyse inventory health and drive corrective actions
- Support inventory accuracy through cycle counting and root cause analysis
- Identify and mitigate risks related to excess and obsolete materials
- Supplier & Procurement Coordination
- Collaborate with Procurement and suppliers to manage lead times and delivery performance
- Expedite critical materials to mitigate production risks
- Support supplier performance improvement initiatives
- Communicate material risks proactively to stakeholders
- Data, Systems & Reporting
- Maintain accurate planning parameters within ERP/MRP systems
- Analyse demand and supply data to support decision‑making
- Track and report KPIs related to material availability and inventory performance
- Support continuous improvement of planning processes and tools
Essential skills
- Previous experience in material planning, supply chain, or production planning
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong understanding of MRP principles and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
- Analytical mindset with strong problem‑solving skills
- Ability to manage priorities in a fast‑paced environment
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
