The Team
You will be part of the GEO (Genetically Engineered Organisms) Team and work alongside the wider Alloy ecosystem that includes our Antibody Division, 82VS, Bioinformatics and a wide network of partners and collaborators. The goal of our team is to develop innovative transgenic platforms to support the antibody discovery efforts of our internal groups and of our external partners with the goal of delivering the best medicines to the patients. We're a small, diverse team bringing together a wide range of experience in genetics, molecular biology and cellular biology. We work closely with internal colleagues and external partners to develop next-generation platforms that support drug discovery research. The GEO team is supported by other functional groups and a strong network of collaborators and consultants, creating a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
Role Overview
As a Molecular Biologist in the GEO Team, you will contribute to the design and construction of large-scale synthetic gene loci that underpin our next-generation discovery platforms. Using advanced genome engineering approaches, you will help create highly diverse systems for therapeutic antibody discovery, including bispecifics and VHHs. The role blends thoughtful genetic design with hands‑on experimental work to build the scientific capabilities that help our partners develop new medicines. You will work with the latest technologies and equipment to develop and characterise next‑generation research models that support the discovery of innovative therapeutics, helping others make better medicines.
Responsibilities
- Complex Locus Engineering: Design and implement complex humanization strategies using state‑of‑the‑art technologies to model human immune repertoire across diverse research platforms.
- Quality Control: Apply rigorous scientific judgment to ensure consistency and reliability by critically evaluating data, experimental approaches, and conclusions.
- Innovation: Approach scientific challenges with curiosity and an open mindset, contributing new ideas and methods while encouraging collaborative problem‑solving.
- Execution: Take initiative and proactively move work forward, demonstrating ownership and accountability while contributing to team success.

Qualifications
- You hold a PhD Degree in Developmental Biology, Functional Genetics, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, or equivalent industrial experience (title will be aligned with experience).
- You possess good knowledge of genetics and innovative techniques in generating transgenic animals.
- You are familiar with genetic engineering: Design of targeting and screening strategy, vector construction and preparation, data analysis and troubleshooting.
- Precision Genome Engineering: You are proficient in CRISPR/Cas9 and advanced integration tools, such as Recombinase‑Mediated Cassette Exchange (RMCE) or site‑specific integrases (e.g., Bxb1).
- Comparative Immunogenetics: You possess a good understanding of repertoire generation mechanisms across different species – specifically how to engineer for both V(D)J recombination and alternative diversification strategies like gene conversion or somatic hypermutation.
- Model Characterization: You have experience with the functional validation of new in vivo models, including flow cytometry, cell sorting, and the assessment of serum titers/binder affinity. You will have a foundational knowledge of animal physiology, husbandry and welfare.
- You have a working knowledge and a demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to various software programs (i.e. Geneious Prime, Benchling, FlowJo).
- Accountability & Drive: You thrive in a nimble, startup‑style environment, owning projects from the initial “dry lab” design to the final “wet lab” validation. You apply meticulous attention to detail in scientific thinking and documented writing to ensure accuracy. This reflects your ability to effectively communicate and present information with clarity and precision. You cultivate a proactive approach, demonstrating a strong eagerness to learn and support the team in achieving success. You demonstrate an independent sense of urgency and are adept at driving projects forward through persistence and a commitment to integrity.
