Allied Mills is part of Associated British Foods and operates seven modern flour milling units across three production sites in Belfast, Manchester and Tilbury. We are also one of a very limited number of businesses able to produce semolina from Durum wheat in one of our specialist mills. Allied Mills is the UK’s third largest miller and mills wheat for everything from bread to bagels, baguettes and biscuits, pasties to pastries, doughnuts, cookies, burger buns and pizzas, naan bread and chapattis, noodles and pasta. Overview Of Role
- Role: Supply Chain Logistics Manager
- Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland
- Hours: 40 p/week
As Supply Chain Logistics Manager, you will be responsible for end‑to‑end planning, coordination and execution of supply chain activities for the site. You will ensure that materials, components and finished goods flow efficiently and cost‑effectively through procurement, production, warehousing and distribution. You will drive operational excellence, optimise planning processes, support supplier performance and lead continuous improvement initiatives to ensure strong service levels and cost control.
Key Accountabilities
- Safety, Food Safety & Environmental: Overall accountability of the health and safety of the team and working area. Actively support all Health and Safety requirements and ensure all standards are met. Maintain a safe working environment in area of operation by actively promoting “Safety First” and “Clean as You Go” cultures. Completion of all relevant risk assessments and Safe system of work. Ensure that self and team are fully aware and compliant with all Health & Safety standards, policies, procedures and legislation. Ensure thorough investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses and be accountable for accident & incident rates. Food safety standards and BRC, Customer audit ready at all times.
- Legal Compliance: Named CPC on Operator Licence for Belfast. Responsible for ensuring the Distribution operation is compliant with Operator Licence. Crimson control – monitoring and updating. Responsible for ensuring the Distribution team maintain servicing of vehicles across the fleet – Own and Hired. Record & Overseeing Working Time Directive & Tacho infringements.
- Warehouse & Distribution: Lead the site supply chain strategy to support production and business objectives. Oversee forecasting, materials planning and production scheduling to ensure OTIF performance. Manage inventory levels and implement controls to avoid shortages or overstock – daily reporting. Monitor and manage supplier performance and drive risk‑mitigation actions. Oversee inbound/outbound logistics and warehouse operations. Ensure accurate Enterprise data and drive continuous process improvements. Track key KPIs and provide insights to site leadership, including contingency planning. Responsible for managing the Warehouse / Third party haulage activities. Overseeing the distribution function ensuring the day‑to‑day operation is on track to meet all the requested customer orders – Bag & bulk.
- People Performance: Daily creation of packing and loading plans, communicating the days plan to Warehouse team leaders, supporting staff, planning and shift cover, communicating with Westmill/ERS team on sack requirements and order/collection. Setting clear goals, targets, and expectations of performance for the supply chain team. Ensure the supply chain is adequately staffed, trained, briefed, monitored, and motivated to fulfil objectives and drive team involvement. Ensure that management, team and other shifts, peers, relevant departments, and other appropriate staff are briefed on all issues as appropriate. Manage supply chain absence and discipline in conjunction with company procedure. Develop a positive climate where all employees are able and motivated to contribute. Reward and recognise those that do well, take steps to correct behaviour of those that do not. Weekly review of driver hours and planning efficiencies to ensure best practice is being followed.
The Right Person
- TMCPC – Essential as a nominated person on the operator license.
- Leadership experience is essential.
- PC literate, including a working ability with Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint and Word.
- Good numeracy and literacy skills.
- Balanced approach to problem solving.
- Good planning.
