You will support the Engineering Manager to lead the on-site engineering team, manage workloads and drive performance. You will oversee daily breakdowns, mentor staff and collaborate with production and the quality team to hit targets.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure optimum plant and equipment efficiency while minimising downtime.
  • Responsible for the people agenda including communication, performance management, training and development.
  • Optimise maintenance management procedures and PPM schedules to improve site performance.
  • Develop cost reduction initiatives and undertake small capital projects as required.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for major or repeating breakdowns and train the team to do the same.
  • Work closely with production staff to achieve daily targets and update them on engineering tasks.
  • Enforce site rules, health and safety procedures, and control measures for contractors and visitors, including issuing permits.
  • Coach and mentor your team, managing holidays, absences and any disciplinary issues.
  • Provide technical support to the team and keep the Engineering Manager informed of significant health and safety or production issues.
  • Working cross functionally to ensure that the engineering function works within an integrated manufacturing team and ensuring the maximum availability of assets.
  • Ensure an environment and culture of safe working practices.
  • Track Engineering KPI's and develop action plans to attain targets and improvement.
  • Cover for Site Engineering Manager.

The Right Person

  • 3 - 5 years experience of managing a team gained within a manufacturing environment.
  • Relevant engineering qualifications (e.g., Engineering Degree, HND in a relevant engineering discipline, Time served Apprenticeship).
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Specific understanding of the requirements of Health and Safety Regulations/Legislation directly relating to engineering.
  • Excellent Project and Cost Management skills.
  • Experience of the change management process and working with new technologies.
  • Experience of working in a FMCG Production environment is desirable.
