The Hygiene operative will ensure that hygiene and housekeeping standards are maintained to a high level across the site. To ensure that the cleaning of the facilities/equipment and infrastructure on site are carried out to the highest of standards in accordance with the ABSS requirements. To ensure the safety of yourself and fellow colleagues so that the ‘Safety First’ vision and mission is achieved.
Key Accountabilities
- To ensure that daily schedules are adhered to and the assigned areas meet the required standards.
- To contribute as part of a team and to assist in meeting the department's Key Performance Indicators.
- Follow instruction, training and guidelines set out by the hygiene department.
- To ensure that the Hygiene Controller / Coordinator are informed to validate cleaning tasks once they are completed.
- Identify areas that have a potential associated risk to food safety and raise and action accordingly.
- Reporting of defects or potential hazards to the Hygiene Controller / Coordinator.
- Issue and manage deliveries of work wear from the Laundry.
- Assisting manufacturing in reduction of waste and the removal of bakery and returns waste.
- Cleaning and litter picking of the site perimeter.
- Replenishment and cleaning of facilities.
- Cleaning the canteen and surrounding areas.
- Use of the floor cleaning machine.
Additional Accountabilities
- To be flexible as mobility of labour is required for this role.
- Work alongside the pest control technician to minimize the likelihood of pest activity.

- To follow safety procedures as written by Allied Bakeries including risk assessments, safe systems of work, correct wearing of PPE and other specific safety instructions relevant to the task being carried out.
- To lead by example and demonstrate safety first through following guidelines.
- Ensure individual compliance with all statutory regulations and legislation regarding Health & Safety.
- Awareness and understanding of health and safety requirements.
- Awareness of COSHH regulations and the safe use of chemicals.
- To contribute and be an active member of the Safety First team.
- To report Hazards/Near Misses and faults to assist in the prevention of accidents.
