We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join the Accounting Services Team. This is an excellent entry level role into Finance within Associated British Foods (ABF) and primarily focussed on one of our supported businesses. In this role, you’ll gain hands-on experience across core finance activities while supporting one of our UK businesses. You’ll work as part of a collaborative, high-performing team focused on delivering accurate reporting, strong controls, and outstanding service. Most importantly, you’ll be encouraged to learn, grow, and develop your finance skills from day one. We believe in rewarding our employees and providing a supportive work environment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Preparing balance sheet reconciliations each period.
  • Completing bank and cash reconciliations.
  • Posting general ledger allocations to support weekly and period reporting.
  • Preparing and posting accruals and prepayments.
  • Completing VAT returns, Intrastat, EC Sales submissions, and National Statistics.
  • Supporting the wider Accounting team across other ABF businesses.
  • Assisting with ad-hoc tasks to ensure the Accounting Services team delivers a high-quality service.

The Right Person

  • Part-qualified accountant or recent graduate actively studying.
  • Strong spreadsheet and numerical skills.
  • Eager to develop and build a career in Finance.
  • Able to work independently while managing large volumes of data accurately.
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Confident communicator with a strong team ethic.
  • Flexible, proactive, and committed to doing a great job.
