About Allica Bank

Allica is the UK's fastest growing company - and the fastest-growing financial technology (Fintech) firm ever. Our purpose is to help established SMEs, one of the last major underserved opportunities in Fintech. Established SMEs are the backbone of local communities - representing over a third of our economy - yet have been largely neglected both by traditional high street banks and modern fintech providers.

Purpose of Role

We’re seeking an experienced Platform Engineer to strengthen our cloud platform capabilities as the organisation continues to scale. The role focuses on deploying, automating, and operating cloud platform services across Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), supporting both Windows and Linux environments, enabling multi-region deployments, and embedding secure self-service capabilities for development teams.

You will leverage modern CI/CD tooling, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and cloud-native services to build and operate scalable platform foundations. The role is guided by cloud Well-Architected Framework principles to ensure solutions meet high standards of security, performance, reliability, operational excellence, and cost efficiency.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Design, build, and operate secure, scalable, multi-region cloud platforms across Azure and Google Cloud Platform to support product and engineering teams.
  • Develop and maintain container platforms for microservices and lightweight workloads using managed container and orchestration services.
  • Architect and manage core platform networking, routing, firewalls, load balancing, CDN/Edge global traffic management.
  • Provide shared platform services such as API management, messaging, eventing, identity integration, and managed data services.
  • Lead infrastructure automation and platform standardisation using Terraform, GitHub and Azure Devops CI/CD pipelines to enable repeatable, compliant deployments.
  • Build self-service platform capabilities (templates, pipelines, guardrails) enabling teams to deploy independently while meeting security and governance standards.
  • Implement and operate managed application and serverless platforms to support event-driven and integration workloads.
  • Embed Well-Architected Framework principles into platform design to ensure reliability, performance, cost efficiency, security, and operability.
  • Partner closely with Security and Engineering teams to define platform guardrails, improve developer experience, and continuously raise standards.
  • Own and maintain platform documentation, reference architectures, and operational runbooks.

Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience building, and operating cloud platforms across Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), covering infrastructure, networking, security, and application hosting.
  • Proven experience implementing cloud and network security controls, including next-generation firewalls and centralized policy management in public cloud environments.
  • High proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation best practices to deliver scalable, repeatable, and governed platform foundations.
  • Experience in Generative AI tools (including GitHub Copilot) to support code development, refactoring, and documentation, improving productivity and delivery efficiency.
  • Extensive experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, applying effective branching strategies, version control, and automated delivery.
  • Skilled in administering and supporting both Linux and Windows systems in cloud-based environments.
  • Solid experience deploying/configuring multi-region architectures, including high availability, resiliency, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Hands-on experience with managed application platforms, container-based services, serverless workloads, and cloud-native integration and messaging services.
  • Strong understanding of cloud networking and edge capabilities, including virtual networks, routing, firewalls, load balancing, CDN and edge services, API gateways, and traffic management.
  • Knowledge of core networking engineering, including routing and switching, performance optimization, traffic management, and network security.
  • Experience working with enterprise networking and security platforms, including firewalls, switches, and wireless infrastructure, with understanding of security protocols.
  • Proven experience operating in regulated environments, with a strong focus on security, auditability, compliance, and operational resilience.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a collaborative platform-engineering mindset.
