The Sustainability Due Diligence and Performance Manager focuses on high-quality integration of ESG due diligence into sustainability- and impact-focused strategies in the private markets platform, as well as ESG engagement and value creation activities with portfolio companies post-investment. The role will cover strategies across developed and emerging markets. The Sustainability Due Diligence and Performance Manger sits in the Impact Strategy team, part of the Sustainable & Impact Investing Team.

This role is based in London UK.

What you will do

• Supporting ESG-related pre-investment due diligence across sustainability- and impact-focused private market strategies: Provide ESG-related due diligence input to investment teams and provide oversight and quality control of third-party ESG consultants where relevant, to help assess the risk, performance and impact of a company through an environmental, social and governance lens. This includes e.g. providing input into climate risk assessments, identifying sustainability risks linked to the business of a company, guidance on the application of sustainability frameworks and standards (across both developed and emerging markets, e.g. IFC Performance Standards, UN Global Compact), providing expert input on sustainability matters in investment committees, advising on sustainability-linked financial instruments (defining appropriate KPIs and negotiating annual targets), support on negotiations with sponsors / companies on sustainability-related requirements in documentation. More broadly, help ensure consistency across the strategies and that AllianzGI approach is in line with market best practices.
• Actively engage with portfolio companies / fund managers on sustainability matters, including e.g. decarbonisation plans and supply chain aspects: A focus on engaging with portfolio companies on decarbonisation aspects, providing expert input tailored to where the company is at on its decarbonisation journey. This engagement can include e.g. engagement on Scopes 1, 2, 3 mapping and disclosure, emissions reductions target-setting, specific decarbonisation levers / activities that the company can implement over time. Engage on climate resilience and broader sustainability matters as relevant, e.g. sustainable and responsible supply chains, gender equality, labour rights etc. Where relevant, provide input post transaction close in the instance of any ESG triggers in investments (e.g. input into and review of corrective action plans etc.).
• Generating and leveraging sustainability performance insights to enhance engagement: Assess investees\’ sustainability performance relative to peers, synthesising and communicating insights and discussing priorities with portfolio companies. Work with portfolio companies to identify ways to mitigate sustainability risks and actionable value creation opportunities. Where relevant, engagement on progress towards sustainability targets.
• Supporting the development of strategies focused on differentiation on sustainability aspects: Serve as an internal subject matter expert on ESG best practices and support portfolio managers in developing strategies with high sustainability value creation ambitions
• ESG content development and thought leadership: Develop ESG toolkits / playbook to support ESG assessment and broader value creation processes across private markets, including to guide decarbonisation across portfolio companies. Develop education content for investment professionals and portfolio company management teams, including deep dives and analysis in specific subject matters or themes. Contribute to thought leadership within the broader market.
• Investor communications on ESG integration: Act as subject matter expert to bring ESG depth to investor / LP communications including in e.g. investor due diligence processes, regular update meetings / calls with investors including in LPACs. Provide input into communications / materials relating to ESG topics.

What you bring

• 7+ years in ESG/sustainability-focused consulting or financial services. Prior experience in private markets asset class and in the energy transition / infrastructure space strongly desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate ESG tools and frameworks into the investment process.
• Strong practical experience working with companies on ESG / sustainability value-creation initiatives including, in particular, decarbonisation roadmaps and emissions reductions target-setting.
• Understanding of sustainability approaches and frameworks / market standards e.g. IFC Performance Standards, UN Global Compact, SFDR, SASB, TCFD, SBTI. Familiarity with carbon accounting and climate risk assessments preferred.
• Strong analytical capabilities: ability to assess and analyse company and third-party data to generate practical insights to enhance engagement.
• International experience, including exposure to working on sustainability issues relating to emerging market investments, is strongly desirable.
• Ability to adapt quickly and work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
• Relevant degree in e.g. Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sustainability, Economics, International Development, or related field.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AI applications such as Microsoft CoPilot
