We are looking for a Senior Underwriter to underwrite US Casualty business, based in London.
The Impact You Will Have
At Allianz Commercial we combine specialist expertise and global reach with high levels of AA‑rated underwriting capacity to industry specific exposures. This allows us to establish a reputation as leaders of some of the largest and most complex Liability risks in the market. Reporting directly to the Head of US Casualty, Regional Unit London, you will underwrite profitable US‑domiciled Casualty business. You will develop strong broker and client relationships and undertake business travel where necessary.
Some of your specific responsibilities could include:
- Underwrite large new and renewal accounts to meet top and bottom line targets.
- Negotiate participation, pricing and terms and conditions with brokers.
- Proactively manage capacity.
- Provide expert underwriting perspective in the development of new insurance products, responding to client need or emerging risks in the marketplace.
- Underwrite in line with the US Casualty governance framework – e.g. Underwriting Authorities, global MSU, Underwriting Guidelines, Rules and Principles.
- Proactively support acquisition of new business and retention of existing business.
- Positively represent Allianz Commercial externally to the market and encourage more junior team members to raise their own profile and that of the team.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
- About 7‑10 years’ proven experience in the US Casualty large corporate marketplace, either in underwriting or broking.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment, insurance program structure design, and contract wordings.
- Ideally CII/CPCU qualified or working towards it.
- Recognised relationships with clients and brokers at peer group level and well‑established within your reference market.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Specialised understanding of regional/national US Casualty insurance markets and the competitor landscape.
- Ability to negotiate effectively achieving the best outcome for the portfolio while maintaining positive business relationships with your clients and brokers.
- Ability to leverage data and analytics to make business more efficient and effective.
- Good understanding of the legal and regulatory framework.
- Ability to design, develop and implement consistent, robust wordings for contracts.
- You should be able to integrate AI‑driven insights into your work to optimise outcomes and support broader organisational goals.
- Ability to work in a global matrix organisation.
- Fluent English skills, with any other languages being advantageous.
