We are looking for a Senior Underwriter Construction, based in London.

Your Team

The Impact You Will Have

Reporting to the Regional Head of Construction, you will underwrite profitable new and renewal business to meet the Construction line of business target in accordance with underwriting guidelines and underwriting authority. You will negotiate terms and conditions and take ownership of your own key accounts/clients as well as develop and maintain strong relationships with our broking and client partners in co‑ordination with our distribution/client relationship team.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite new business and annually renewable accounts to meet top and bottom‑line targets in line with Underwriting Guidelines.
  • Underwrite and evaluate Natural Catastrophe Accumulation, ensuring an understanding of catastrophe modelling and interpretation of nat‑cat scenarios.
  • Ensure contract certainty is achieved on all accounts at time of inception.
  • Ensure utilisation of global pricing tools.
  • Support development and execution of regional Underwriting strategy for the LoB and support key business initiatives.
  • Maintain and generate new client and broker relationships.
  • Contribute to internal key projects.
  • Ensure an underwriting file is established (whether electronic or paper) and maintained for each risk and transaction.
  • Assist with the learning and development of more junior team members.
  • Proactively support completion of policy administration and credit control processes.
  • Positively represent Allianz Commercial externally to the market.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

  • A minimum of 5 years’ proven track record in underwriting profitable Construction business.
  • In‑depth understanding of LoB products and portfolio.
  • In‑depth understanding of regional/local LoB insurance markets and competitor landscape.
  • Demonstrable, established relationships with brokers at peer group level.
  • Preferably a degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Finance, Engineering or another appropriate discipline.
  • Ability to assess risk inherent exposures and natural hazards relevant to the line of business.
  • Ability to portfolio manage and analyse trends and loss scenarios.
  • Excellent analytical skills to analyse highly complex data from multiple sources.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to persuade and motivate others.
  • Experience in applying artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to improve business processes and decision‑making is highly beneficial.
