An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Motor Fleet Existing Business Senior Underwriter to join our established and successful Motor Fleet team in Birmingham. You will be at the heart of key broker relationships, with a primary focus on retaining and developing our existing Motor Fleet portfolio. Working closely with brokers and internal stakeholders, you will deliver strong underwriting outcomes, excellent service, and sustainable growth across the account.
Location: This role is based in our Birmingham office. Please note that this is a hybrid working role with the expectation that you attend the office 2–3 days per week.
Salary Information: Pay: Circa £50,000 – £55,000 per year. Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.
About You: As a Motor Fleet Existing Business Senior Underwriter, you will:
- Manage and retain an existing Motor Fleet portfolio, delivering timely, accurate and profitable renewal terms.
- Build and maintain strong broker relationships through effective negotiation and excellent customer service.
- Handle mid-term adjustments, policy amendments and renewal activity in line with underwriting authority.
- Ensure underwriting decisions align with risk appetite, pricing strategy and portfolio objectives.
- Check, issue and manage policy documentation accurately and within agreed service levels.
- Develop your technical underwriting capability through learning, feedback and exposure to experienced Underwriters.
- Form part of our internal UWQA audit team.
Essential Skills:
- Experience underwriting Motor Fleet risks, with a strong understanding of existing business and renewals.
- Ability to evaluate risk, apply underwriting judgement and manage portfolio performance.
- Proven capability to build effective, trusted broker relationships.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail with good analytical skills.
- Proactive mindset with a passion for learning and personal development.
- Coaching and Development skills to aid and support the development of less experienced underwriters on the team.
- Be part of the Senior team and undertake additional tasks in line with account and Senior responsibilities.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience working within an existing business or retention-focused underwriting role.
- CII qualifications or a commitment to progressing towards CII accreditation.
- Experience working within agreed underwriting authority levels.
- Responsible Artificial Intelligence usage.
