We are looking for an Underwriting Manager, General Aviation, based in London.
The Impact You Will Have
- Lead and manage a team to underwrite profitable new and renewal business, meeting Line of Business (LoB) targets at regional and/or global level.
- Accountable for the negotiation of participation, pricing, and terms and conditions for clients, with ultimate ownership and responsibility for key accounts within the team.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and key stakeholders while driving the training, development, and performance of the underwriting team.
Team Management & Leadership
- Manage and lead a team of Underwriters.
- Delegate tasks effectively to achieve overall team results and LoB objectives.
- Manage and supervise team client accounts, acting as the point of referral and/or escalation for complex issues.
- Manage cost centre budget within plan.
- Drive the training, development, and career progression of team members.
Underwriting Strategy & Leadership
- Contribute to the development and execution of the regional underwriting strategy for the relevant LoB.
- Manage referrals from underwriters and spokes, re‑underwriting complex business as appropriate.
- Where applicable, take responsibility for a particular sub‑LoB or specialist area within the regional team, acting as a "champion" for all related matters.
Underwrite Profitable Business
- Underwrite large new and renewal accounts to meet top‑line and bottom‑line targets (regional and/or global).
- Negotiate participation, pricing, and terms and conditions with brokers; proactively manage capacity.
- Underwrite and evaluate Natural Catastrophe Accumulation, demonstrating a strong understanding of catastrophe modelling and interpretation of scenarios (for relevant LoBs).
- Underwrite International Insurance Programmes (for relevant LoBs).
- Maintain deep specialisation in a particular area of expertise.
Underwriting Approach & Compliance
- Underwrite in accordance with the LoB governance framework, including Underwriting Authorities, Global Minimum Standards of Underwriting (MSU), Underwriting Guidelines, Rules, and Principles.
- Ensure contract certainty is achieved on all accounts at the point of inception.
- Ensure consistent utilisation of global pricing tools.
- Ensure placing and binding of Facultative Reinsurance prior to policy inception.
Market Management
- Proactively support the acquisition of new business and retention of existing business, including client and broker negotiations where necessary.
- Proactively liaise on market management initiatives and campaigns.
Relationship Management
- Positively represent AGCS externally to the market, upholding the company's reputation and brand.
- Proactively drive the involvement of functional areas in the underwriting process, including Distribution, Allianz Risk Consulting (ARC), Claims, and Operations.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key brokers, clients, and other relevant stakeholders (e.g., risk managers, cedants).
What You’ll Bring To The Role
- Proven, strong experience in underwriting of profitable Aviation business.
- Expert knowledge of and well established in the General Aviation market.
- Proven successful leadership skills; Ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Expertise in risk assessment and a firm understanding of policy administration life cycle.
- Strong commercial and strategic awareness.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Able to work in an international matrix organization.
- Good interpersonal skills, both internally and externally.
- Experience in applying artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to improve business processes and decision‑making is highly beneficial.
