We are looking for an Underwriting Product Manager for Hull, based in our central London office.

Your responsibilities will include providing expert underwriting guidance, serving as a referral manager for cases that exceed local authority, and contributing to the overall success of our defined line of business. Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough research on competitive trends, product line trends, producer trends, and the external environment, including legal, economic, demographic, and distribution trends. This will enable you to align our underwriting strategies with the regulatory environment.
  • Provide valuable recommendations on new and revised products, programs, underwriting standards, and procedures. You will also offer guidance on pricing within the regions to drive success.
  • Monitor a consistent underwriting governance framework for Marine, ensuring product results are in line with our objectives. You will analyze claims, large losses and trends to maximize profitability.
  • Take the lead in implementing underwriting guidelines, rules, principles, conditions, pricing tools, and best practice processes and standards.
  • Conduct comprehensive business reviews to ensure the quality execution of local underwriting.
  • Support the development and implementation of global MSU (Minimum Standards of Underwriting), Underwriting guidelines, rules, principles, best practice processes and standards.
  • Review and provide support for referrals within your area of expertise, contributing to effective decision-making.
  • Promote the implementation and maintenance of appropriate training programs to enhance underwriting expertise.
  • Collaborate in steering the Global Practice Group process, driving continuous development of underwriting expertise through practice.
  • Take a proactive approach to managing and mitigating NatCat (Natural Catastrophe) exposure, in close collaboration with CAT Risk Management and NCCSD (NatCat Coordination and Steering Division).
  • Perform qualitative analysis, and portfolio management, including profitability analysis and KPI (Key Performance Indicator) reporting. This will provide valuable insights into trades, distribution channels, and overall performance.

What You’ll Bring To The Role

  • Extensive experience in underwriting profitable businesses in the Marine sector. You will be a specialized expert with a deep understanding of Hull products.
  • Demonstrated track record of building strong relationships with brokers at a peer group level and being well-established within the market.
  • Specialized knowledge of regional and local Line of Business insurance markets, as well as a comprehensive understanding of the global competitor landscape.
  • Proficient understanding of the legal and regulatory framework, insurance industry practices, intermediary operations, insurance laws, and general business operations. A strong grasp of competition and marketing conditions is essential.
  • The ability to analyze highly complex data from multiple sources in detail and proactively identify and resolve issues before they become problematic.
  • Strong skills in developing, implementing, and effectively communicating strategies to address important trends or changes in the business.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly express ideas and messages. You should be capable of presenting a compelling story to both improvised and prepared audiences in English.
  • A solid understanding of data analysis, automation and AI tools is required, with an awareness of ethical AI usage.
