We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Loss Control Engineer to join our team. This would suit applicants looking to move into a risk management role from e.g. a claims, broker, underwriting, engineering or other risk management disciplines.
- Undertake property and casualty risk control surveys, both remotely and on site.
- Develop additional technical disciplines as opportunities arise.
- Engage directly with customers to assess whether trade‑related hazards are adequately managed.
- Negotiate and agree appropriate risk improvements.
- Produce high‑quality reports within agreed service standards.
- Collaborate with other business areas to support wider operational needs.
- Handle technical referrals as required.
- Contribute to training activities and share best practice across the team.
Full training will be provided which incorporates a fully supported 2 year programme designed around your current knowledge and skill set, and includes NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety. This is a home based role, which includes travel across the Midlands, South England & South Wales, with occasional overnight stays.
Salary Information: Pay Circa salary £40,000 per year. Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.
To be successful in this role you will have a general understanding of insurance, gained from a current or previous role in risk control, risk management, brokering, underwriting, engineering or claims areas, along with:
- Sense of commercial judgement and business acumen.
- Organised with an attention to detail.
- Able to communicate effectively with underwriters, brokers and customers at all levels.
- Highly proactive approach to personal development, service delivery and ability to demonstrate positive behaviour.
- The ability to assess risk, the exposure it presents to the Company and the application of appropriate loss control measures.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Display a common-sense approach to everyday situations.
- Be self‑motivated.
- Be able to work alone and also be part of a team.
Essential Skills: Insurance industry qualifications, such as CertCII, DipCII, ACII, FCII or progressing towards. Valid and current UK driving licence.
