We are looking for a Global Head of Political Violence and Terrorism.
Your Team
The Political Violence and Terrorism team at Allianz Commercial is a specialist unit that provides expert risk assessment, underwriting, and insurance solutions for businesses exposed to political violence, terrorism, civil unrest, and war perils globally.
The team offers comprehensive coverage including standalone terrorism and sabotage insurance, strikes, riots and civil commotion (SRCC) insurance, and full political violence policies covering war on land, civil war, political subversion, and political intimidation.
Operating across more than 200 countries and territories through the Allianz Group network, the team delivers bespoke solutions— including property damage, business interruption, contingent business interruption, denial of access, event cancellation, and third‑party terrorism liability—tailored to each client’s unique risk footprint rather than a “one size fits all” approach.
The team also provides market‑leading risk consulting, including analysis of geopolitical trends, social resilience, and emerging threats such as gray‑zone sabotage, drone incursions, and lone‑wolf terrorism, helping clients safeguard their people, property, and operations in an increasingly volatile world.
The Impact You Will Have
As the Head of Global Political Violence and Hostile Environment Solutions across Large Corp and Mid Corp across all regions you will lead Allianz’s PVT offering to the market and provide a clear point of contact and escalation for the Line of Business.
You will own the PVT LOB and P&L, oversee strategy across all segments, and manage the Centre of Competence for all short‑tail lines relating to PVT globally across Large Corp & Mid Corp.
Responsibilities
- Underwriting Strategy & Team Management
- Take a major role in setting Global Lo B strategy.
- Align strategic objectives with other functions in the OE (Distribution, Actuarial, Claims, Reinsurance, etc.).
- Independently design and present to the Global Head the annual strategy for AGCS Stand‑alone PVT underwriting, fully aligned with the Global Lo B strategy across Large Corp and Mid Corp.
- Execute on strategic targets. Build, develop and retain the respective Global PC team in cooperation with Regional Lo B Head.
- Drive the Lo B AGCS UW Academy organisation and other trainings, develop content for them as needed.
- Direct and/or matrix‑manage Regional PVT Lo B heads (depending on local structures) and other team members across AGCS and OEs, as assigned by the Global Head of Property.
- Steering and Controlling
- Full ownership of the respective Global PC including planning, budgeting and monitoring in close coordination with Regional Lo B Heads and CUO Global Business Analysis (i. e., Portfolio Steering & Pricing).
Oversee the P&L of the Global Cyber PVT ensuring profitability throughout the cycle.
Identify and monitor PC‑specific claims developments and trends.
- Design and execute feedback loops between Claims, Risk Consulting and Global Underwriting strategy.
Support the PC‑specific corporate underwriting: business appetite definition, authority proposal, implementation of UW framework, and ensure adherence to the framework in close cooperation with CUO Global Business Analysis (i. e., Global Process Coordination).
- Representation and Client Relationship Management
- Identify trends, market developments, market claims, market potentials and clients in close coordination with Regional PVT Head and respective PC Leaders of other Lo Bs.
- Provide acquisition support (including direct client, broker negotiations, PC‑specific presentations at broker events).
- Build and maintain relationships with global leadership of the PVT function at major broking partners.
- UW Approach and Compliance
- PC‑specific corporate underwriting: business appetite definition, authority approvals, implementation of UW framework, and ensure adherence to the UW framework in close cooperation with CUO Global Business Analysis (i. e., Global Process Coordination).
- CUO Lo B referral responsibility for the respective PC. Oversight over Lo B’s Business.
- Review process in cooperation with Global Process Coordination.
- Facilitate regional exchange between regions regarding the respective PC and build, facilitate, and multiply PC‑specific knowledge in all regions.
- Coordination and Collaboration
- Drive and facilitate PC‑specific internal and external communication in close cooperation with all relevant parties.
- Facilitate regular regional exchange between the Regions regarding the respective PC; build, facilitate and multiply PC‑specific knowledge within all Regions.
- Drive and facilitate collaborative efforts with other Lo Bs in AGCS and across OEs to identify potential cooperation projects and aligned business targets and execute on them.
- Advise, consult and collaborate in Allianz Group Cyber projects, including external engagements, partnerships, marketing, investments, public policy consultation, regulatory enquiries, etc.
- Product Development
- Drive from underwriting side the PC‑specific pricing, tools, processes and organisational matters.
Drive product development/ enhancements for PC including cross Lo B products, identify market/ client needs and trends.
- Ensure global product roll‑out for PC. Be aware and responsive to market events and emerging trends within the Lo B.
- What You’ll Bring To The Role
- A deep knowledge of PVT and Hostile Environment insurance products across global markets.
- Expert understanding of global Lo B insurance markets and competitor landscape; expert understanding of legal and regulatory framework.
- Well‑recognized relationship building with brokers at peer group level and well established within local markets.
- Significant experience in leadership and development of direct teams internationally and within complex global matrix environments.
- Robust understanding of policy administration life cycle, information collection, policy issuance, premium bookings, credit control, cancellation.
- Ability to express ideas and messages clearly, both written and verbally.
Ability to “sell” an improvised or prepared audience winning story.
Ability to persuade and motivate others to act, without executive authority.
- Ability to analyze highly complex data from multiple sources, in detail; identify and resolve issues before they transpire.
- Ability to lead and manage a team of underwriters, including delegation, steering team direction/goals.
- A deep knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) with the ability to leverage AI‑driven insights to shape strategic decisions and drive innovation across the organization.
Compensation
The base salary range for this position is €98,000 – €130,000 in Germany.
In the United States, ranges vary by location: $207,926 – $314,220 for New York, NY; $179,704 – $271,570 for Chicago, IL or Alpharetta, GA.
A performance‑based variable component is also offered.
