We’re Alliance Tool Hire, a growing independent hire business supplying tools, lifting and access equipment to contractors from 9 branches across the South of England. Following a period of strong growth, we’re looking for an experienced Hire Controller / Assistant Manager to take a key role running the hire desk at one of our largest depots in East London.

This is a hands‑on, customer‑facing role where you’ll be at the heart of day‑to‑day operations, supporting the Depot Manager and helping to lead the team. Key Responsibilities
  • Customer service & relationships
    • Be the first point of contact for customers on the hire desk
    • Build strong, long‑term relationships so we become their first‑choice supplier
    • Handle enquiries, quotes, and orders quickly and accurately
  • Fleet & depot operations
    • Help manage the hire fleet to ensure the right equipment is available when required
    • Work closely with our fitters to prioritise inspections, repairs, and off‑hires
    • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and organisation across the depot
    • Help plan and manage the drivers’ delivery and collection schedule to ensure equipment reaches customers on time
  • Team leadership
    • Contribute to a positive, “can‑do” culture in the depot
    • Act as a trusted deputy to the Depot Manager when required
  • Health & safety & compliance
    • Ensure health & safety policies and procedures are followed at all times
    • Keep paperwork, stock checks and records accurate and up to date
Skills & Experience
  • Experience working on a hire desk in tool or plant hire, or at a builders merchant
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to build rapport quickly
  • Ambitious, proactive and solutions‑focused – you like to find a way to say “yes”
  • Good working knowledge of core tool hire equipment
  • Organised, disciplined and detail‑focused – your depot is tidy, your stock checks are current, and your paperwork is immaculate
  • Full UK driving licence (required)
