Join Our Growing Team
We are a leading regional independent tool hire company with 10 depots across the South of England and Wales. We have doubled our revenue in the past four years - via three acquisitions and two new locations - and face huge changes in the hire market that promise to accelerate this growth further.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Management Accountant to join our friendly Finance Team. The role reports directly into the Head of Finance, giving the successful candidate the opportunity to develop their career and progress into more senior finance roles in the future.
About the Role
This is a pivotal role within the finance team, taking ownership of day-to-day financial reporting and accounting operations. We are entering an exciting period of growth and finance transformation, and we are looking for someone who wants to play an active role in improving reporting, processes and the way finance supports the wider business. You’ll be working closely with the Head of Finance to ensure month-end runs smoothly, our numbers are accurate and that we are strengthening processes along the way.
The successful candidate will manage the Finance Assistant and support our Credit Controller and Purchase Ledger Clerk, gaining valuable exposure to a variety of finance functions within a busy, growing business.
This role would suit someone who is detail-orientated, eager to learn, and enjoys working with customers, suppliers and colleagues across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation of depot-level management accounts including variance analysis and commentary.
- Support the Head of Finance with budgeting, forecasting and the development of improved management reporting.
- Working with depot & operational teams to help them to understand financial performance.
- Identifying and implementing process improvements. For example, identifying that a month-end process is heavily manual, then introducing a standardised reconciliation template or automated reporting process to reduce errors and speed up the close.
- Monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Maintaining the fixed asset register.
- Updating and maintaining our weekly cash flow forecast.
- Reviewing payment runs.
- Preparation of the payroll report for review by the Head of Finance.
- VAT returns.
- Reconciliation of COGS.
- Providing oversight and support for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activities
What We're Looking For
Essential Skills and Experience
- ACCA or CIMA part-qualified or newly qualified.
- At least 3 years of hands-on accounting experience, including month-end processes, balance sheet reconciliations and management accounts preparation.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Comfortable working in a changing environment and proactively looking for ways to improve existing processes.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Confident written and verbal communication skills.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word.
- Confident and curious regarding integrating AI tools into day-to-day work.
- Ability to work accurately and manage multiple tasks.
- Positive and professional attitude.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary of £40,000 - £50,000 depending on experience.
- 23 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays.
- Company pension scheme
- Friendly and supportive working environment.
- Career progression opportunities.
As the business and finance function continue to grow, there will be opportunities to take on increasing responsibility and progress into more senior finance positions.
If you're looking for a rewarding career in finance and want to join a supportive business where your development is encouraged, we'd love to hear from you.
