Our client is a well-established and rapidly growing product development and manufacturing business supplying innovative consumer products to major retailers across the UK and international markets. As part of their continued expansion, they are seeking an experienced and creative Senior Toy & Stationery Designer to join their product development team. This is a rare opportunity for an ambitious designer looking to take the next step in their career. Working closely alongside the current Head of Design, the successful candidate will play a key role in shaping future product ranges while gaining exposure to the strategic and commercial aspects of the business. The position would suit someone who combines strong creative design skills with commercial awareness, product development expertise, and hands-on experience using 3D modelling software to bring concepts to life.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop innovative toy and stationary products from concept through to production.
- Create product concepts, sketches, technical drawings, prototypes, and presentations.
- Utilise 3D modelling and rendering software to develop and visualise product concepts.
- Research market trends, consumer behaviour, and competitor activity to identify new product opportunities.
- Develop commercially viable products that align with customer and retailer requirements.
- Create packaging concepts and supporting artwork where required.
- Prepare design specifications and production-ready artwork for manufacturing.
- Work closely with sourcing, sales, and product development teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Liaise with overseas manufacturing partners to ensure products are delivered to specification, on time, and within budget.
- Review samples, prototypes, and production submissions, recommending improvements where necessary.
- Support customer presentations and contribute to long-term product strategy.
- Ensure all products meet relevant safety, quality, and compliance standards.
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience in toy design, stationery design, product design, gifting, arts & crafts, or a related consumer products environment.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating successful commercial product development.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Essential experience using 3D modelling and rendering software such as SolidWorks, Rhino, Fusion 360, Blender, KeyShot, or similar.
- Strong understanding of product development processes from concept through to manufacture.
- Excellent creative, conceptual, and visual communication skills.
- Commercial awareness and an understanding of consumer product trends.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively to deadlines.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
