A growing civil engineering contractor specialising in Section 278 highway works and infrastructure schemes across the UK is looking to appoint a Project Manager to join their Southern team based in Tring. Working closely with the Group Engineering Manager, you will support the delivery of infrastructure and highway projects across the Southern and Central regions, playing a key role in coordinating projects from planning through to completion.

The RoleThis position combines office-based project coordination with regular site involvement, providing exposure to the full lifecycle of civil engineering and highway infrastructure projects. You will support the delivery of high-quality highway works, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the required standards while maintaining strong communication with stakeholders, subcontractors, and project teams. The role offers the opportunity to gain experience across technical, commercial, and operational aspects of project delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Support the delivery of Section 278 and highway infrastructure projects
- Assist in managing multiple projects in line with project management principles
- Conduct site inspections, investigations, and reporting
- Liaise with stakeholders, residents, subcontractors, and local authorities
- Review tenders, quotations, and bill of quantities
- Assist with valuations, costing, and commercial assessments
- Provide technical support and problem-solving on-site
- Work closely with engineering teams to interpret and implement design drawings
- Supervise subcontractors, including site inductions and permit management
- Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with specifications and safety standards
- Assist with adoption documentation and project sign-off
- Produce or review AutoCAD drawings where required
We are looking for a motivated and proactive individual who is keen to build a career in civil engineering project management. You will ideally have:
- Experience or knowledge of Project Management within construction or civil engineering
- Strong organisation and documentation skills
- Awareness of health and safety practices
- The ability to coordinate teams and manage multiple priorities
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Familiarity with AutoCAD (desirable but not essential)
- A valid UK driving licence
