Job Details

This role is in support of Cencora's wholesale distribution services in Europe operating through our Alliance Healthcare business.

Responsibilities:

  • Legal and Safety Compliance: Ensure adherence to all relevant transport and health and safety legislation, including operator's license conditions and Department of Transport (DVSA) regulations.
  • Fleet Maintenance: Manage vehicle maintenance schedules, service, repairs, and inspections to ensure all vehicles are road-fit.
  • Driver Management: Ensure all drivers have the necessary licenses and qualifications, monitor driver hours, and manage issues like tachograph infringements.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for vehicle maintenance, driver records (licenses, CPC, etc.), and driver hours.
  • Risk Management: Assess and mitigate risks related to transport operations. This can include investigating incidents, managing fuel usage, and handling infringements.
  • Policy and Training: Communicate compliance requirements to staff and may be involved in developing or delivering training materials to ensure standards are met.
  • Auditing and Reporting: Conduct audits and monitor data to detect systematic failures and report on service quality levels.
  • Monitor and manage drivers’ performance, ensuring compliance to procedures as detailed in the drivers duties booklet.
  • Ensure that vehicle security disciplines are maintained.
  • Enforce driver compliance with the strict controls around van condition and preventative maintenance.
  • Ensure vehicle and driver presentation conforms to company requirements to promote the brand.
  • Report vehicle defects and maintenance requirements to ensure roadworthiness and promote driver safety.
  • Maintain a driver training program to increase drivers’ skills, competencies and route knowledge to achieve maximum flexibility for sickness and holiday cover and promote the brand.
  • The management and relevant communication of driver delivery failures to minimise the disruption to customer service.
  • Prompt and effective reaction to breakdowns and accidents.
  • Compliance to DTP contractual requirements through the achievement of specific KPIs.
  • Investigate customer services issues and provide prompt feedback.
  • Ensure the department meet all H&S requirements and Direct Reports are aware of their responsibilities.
  • Ensure compliance to GDP (Goods Distribution Practice) procedures.
  • Provide effective leadership and motivation through regular team briefings/debriefings.
  • Take appropriate steps to maintain IIP accreditation, agreeing clear objectives for direct reports and monitoring performance through annual appraisal process as per company guidelines.
  • Take responsibility for all areas of people management for direct reports including coaching and nurturing talent and motivating the team through effective leadership.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to colleagues in areas of responsibility.
  • Work closely with management colleagues to drive efficiencies across the Service Centre promoting a culture of continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • Experience of running a large LGV fleet covering all areas of its operation.
  • Experience of leading transport operations, including drivers and administrators at various locations.
  • Solid leadership skills with the ability to engage drivers to deliver efficient performance.
  • Experience of interacting with Transport systems, processes & data, such as Microlise and the ability to learn other systems.
  • Good Numeracy and Literacy skills.
  • Suits an individual who is organised, analytical, structural, independent, tenacious and comfortable in communicating with others.
  • Openness to process & change management.
  • Knowledge of the pharmaceuticals industry desirable.
  • Management Transport CPC Required.

In addition:

  • All management roles within the Service Centre will need to be “on call” for emergency orders.
  • All management roles within the Service Centre will need to participate in a weekend working rota.
  • There will be a need to travel to link points etc.
