Allerton Bishop is delighted to be partnering with an innovative clinical-stage Gene Therapy company to appoint an Associate Director, Process Development. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing CMC organisation developing next-generation gene therapies. Reporting into senior technical leadership, you will lead a small, high-performing Process Development team responsible for advancing both upstream and downstream manufacturing processes from development through to clinical manufacture.

You'll play a key role in developing robust, scalable and GMP-ready manufacturing processes while working closely with Manufacturing, Analytical Development, Quality, Regulatory CMC and external CDMO partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a Process Development team responsible for both upstream and downstream Gene Therapy manufacturing processes.
  • Drive process optimisation, scale-up, technology transfer and manufacturing readiness to support clinical development programmes.
  • Provide technical leadership across process characterisation, process robustness and continuous improvement activities.
  • Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Analytical Development, Quality, Regulatory CMC and external CDMOs to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Support CMC strategy, regulatory submissions and manufacturing investigations while maintaining scientific excellence.
  • Build and develop a collaborative, high-performing team focused on innovation, quality and delivery.
About You

We're looking for an experienced Process Development leader with expertise across upstream and downstream Gene Therapy manufacturing.

You will bring:

  • Leadership experience within Process Development, CMC or Technical Development.
  • Strong knowledge of viral vector manufacturing, cell and gene therapy, biologics or advanced therapies.
  • Experience supporting technology transfer, process scale-up and GMP manufacturing.
  • A collaborative leadership style with the ability to mentor scientists and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working within fast-paced biotech, gene therapy, cell therapy or CDMO environments.
