This role leads advocacy strategy for policy topics across AbbVie’s national affiliates, builds strategic alliances, and positions AbbVie as a trusted health policy partner and influential leader within the Region Europe team. This is an onsite position that can be based in France, Belgium, UK or Germany, with expected travel of 25-30% of the time.
Strategic Alliances- Identify and develop and strengthen strategic alliances within the broad health stakeholder community, think tanks, economic development, health provider organizations, etc. to support the value of innovative pharmaceuticals and to drive sustainable pharmaceutical policy.
- Working closely with Corporate Affairs, Market Access, Legal and other cross-functional partners to execute government affairs strategies and campaigns to support positive changes in the innovative pharmaceutical environment.
- Craft and drive persuasive narratives that clearly articulate the consequences of harmful policy proposals and promote pro-innovation solutions.
- Use research, public opinion insights, and policy analysis to inform campaign design, message testing, and performance measurement.
- Represent AbbVie in external forums and serve as a visible advocate for pro-innovation policy positions.
- Lead and coordinate, in collaboration with the area GA team, the Region Europe government affairs affiliate strategic planning process with a particular emphasis on above brand advocacy strategies related to pharmaceutical budgets, pricing policy and other market access related issues.
- Develop and lead a cross-functional advocacy strategy to leverage AbbVie’s manufacturing, European R&D and clinical trial investments with government affairs colleagues from Germany, Ireland, France and Italy.
- In collaboration with regional and global market access colleagues, identify and prioritise policy issues that impact AbbVie’s business and lead the development and execution of corresponding advocacy strategies and tactics with Region Europe leadership and affiliate colleagues.
- In collaboration with the international policy team identify key above brand policies impacting the business, partnering and develop company positions that can support in market strategies and advocacy.
- Represent AbbVie at relevant European trade associations as required, and support senior management participation at high-level decision-making committees and events.
- Gather, analyse and interpret trade association intelligence, positions and communicate priority issues to affiliates and relevant internal partner functions.
- Masters Degree (preferred) in Business, Health Policy, Public Administration or related.
- 10-years professional experience in the government affairs or policy (e.g. in-house, trade association, consulting firm, government or political fields).
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare policies and pharmaceutical sector: EU public health policies required, European national public health policies.
- Understanding of the key current policy impacting the pharmaceutical sector such as pricing and access, intellectual property and regulatory policy.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working directly in a political environment: national or EU parliament, executive agency, EU Commission, etc.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working in government affairs in a national market with a strong preference for experience in Germany, France, Italy, Spain or UK, with demonstrated successful advocacy project management.
- Proven track record of successful prioritisation and execution of complex strategies and tactics that involves both national and EU policy stakeholders.
- Experience with commercial brand team strategy development.
- Solid track record in team-building, coalition-development and execution of multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- Experience with senior government or corporate executive presentation and engagement.
