Allendale Public Schools is seeking a Library Media Aide. This position reports to the Middle School Principal and is effective from August 19, 2026. The starting wage is $16.30 per hour.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma required; experience working with children or in a library preferred.
- Must be able to take direction from building administrators, media specialist, and teachers.
- Exhibit qualities of patience, consistency, and flexibility in working with students and staff.
- Well organized and willing to take on tasks as they arise.
- Knowledge of media center tools and online programs.
- Experience with technology to create and distribute announcements via email and Risevision.
- Open-minded attitude and passion for working with all students.
Essential Job Functions:
- Management of the media center and materials.
- Assist teachers and students in locating appropriate materials.
- Assist students in the use of digital programs and online searching.
- Process, catalog, and organize media center materials.
- Maintain bulletin boards and displays.
- Check in, check out, and correct shelving of materials.
- Assist with special programs and classroom projects that involve the media center.
- Conduct year-end inventories of all equipment and materials.
- Repair damaged material and prepare lists of material to replace.
- Assist students with 504 and ELL plans, including providing a quiet environment for completing assessments as a proctor or scribe.
- Maintain a catalog of all checked/loaned library materials.
- Ability to work well with students, staff, and parents.
- Supervise in-school online learners.
- Assist in Lunch Recovery.
- Other duties as assigned.
Additional Duties:
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Equipment and Travel Requirements:
- Uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephones.
- Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to fingers, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear, taste, and smell.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust/focus.
Work Environment:
- The noise level in the work environment is loud to moderate.
Mental Functions:
- The employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile, and negotiate.
