We are seeking a Senior Marine Ecologist with extensive experience in Habitat Regulations Assessment (HRA) to provide in-house expertise on coastal and marine projects. This is a hands-on role leading the delivery and quality assurance of HRAs, supporting complex ecological decision-making across sensitive environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and quality-assure HRAs (screening, Appropriate Assessment, tests of likely significance) for marine and coastal projects.
  • Provide technical input to marine ecological chapters in environmental assessments, management plans, and mitigation strategies.
  • Interpret complex ecological data to deliver robust, defensible conclusions.
  • Support internal teams with HRA guidance and specialist marine ecology advice.
  • Prepare high-quality reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Degree in Marine Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Chartered Environmentalist and/or full CIEEM membership.
  • Extensive experience leading HRAs for coastal or marine projects, including Level 2 Appropriate Assessments.
  • Strong knowledge of protected habitats, species, and ecological impact pathways.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
