Project Manager - Environmental Restoration & Land Management

Salary: £34,000 Contract: 6-Month Fixed-Term Contract Location: Oxford (Office-Based or Hybrid) Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Manager to join a leading environmental organisation delivering large-scale habitat restoration and nature recovery projects across Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

This is a strategically important role offering significant responsibility and the chance to contribute to one of the UK’s most ambitious landscape-scale freshwater and floodplain restoration programmes.

Working closely with landowners, partners, consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders, you will play a key role in progressing projects from development into implementation.

Alongside a flagship restoration programme involving more than 80 land managers across approximately 7,000 hectares, you will also oversee a portfolio of regional conservation and natural flood management projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management
  • Lead the day-to-day delivery and coordination of multiple environmental projects.
  • Develop work plans, define project tasks and allocate resources effectively.
  • Manage and support project staff and external contractors.
  • Monitor project progress, budgets and expenditure.
  • Prepare financial reports and support funder reporting requirements.
  • Oversee contract management and project logistics.
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are implemented and maintained.
  • Maintain project records and internal management systems.
  • Present project updates and outcomes to partners and stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with landowners, farmers, consultants, public bodies and partner organisations.
  • Support land managers in project participation and decision-making.
  • Contribute to the development of governance structures, agreements and delivery mechanisms.
  • Project Development
  • Help identify and develop future habitat restoration, freshwater conservation and natural flood management opportunities.
  • Support the growth of a long-term regional environmental network and conservation programme.

About You

We are looking for an organised and motivated project professional with a passion for environmental conservation and practical habitat restoration.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
  • Proven project management and budget management experience.
  • Experience delivering multi-partner environmental, conservation or land management projects.
  • Experience managing staff, contractors and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of freshwater, wetland or habitat restoration ecology.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • GIS experience.
  • Understanding of land management policy and rural stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience working with landowners, farmers or environmental delivery schemes.
