Ready to take a leading role in shaping the future of climate change and sustainability consultancy? I'm working with a well-established environmental consultancy looking to appoint an Associate Director or Technical Director to help lead and expand its carbon, climate change and sustainability services. This is an opportunity to combine technical leadership, client engagement and business development, helping shape a growing team while delivering impactful work across a diverse range of sectors.

The Role

You’ll lead the delivery of carbon and climate change projects, manage client relationships and support the continued growth of the team’s services. Established work focuses on greenhouse gas emissions and climate change assessments within Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), including major infrastructure projects and Development Consent Orders (DCOs). Alongside this, you’ll help develop broader advisory services covering Net Zero strategies, decarbonisation, climate risk and resilience, whole-life carbon, ESG and sustainability planning.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the technical delivery of carbon and climate change assessments, including EIA and climate risk studies.
  • Managing projects, budgets and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Building client relationships and identifying new business opportunities.
  • Contributing to bids, proposals and the development of new service areas.
  • Mentoring colleagues and supporting the development of the wider team.
  • Providing strategic advice on climate policy, sustainability and decarbonisation.

About You

You’ll be an experienced environmental consultant with a strong background in carbon, climate change and sustainability, combining technical expertise with commercial awareness. Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • Strong knowledge of UK climate change legislation, planning policy and guidance.
  • Experience leading greenhouse gas and climate change assessments as part of EIA.
  • Experience preparing Environmental Statement chapters and technical reports.
  • Knowledge of climate risk, adaptation and resilience assessments.
  • Exposure to Net Zero strategies, decarbonisation or wider sustainability advisory work.
  • Experience in project management, financial control, bid preparation and business development.
  • A track record of team leadership, mentoring and developing client relationships.

Experience with DCO projects would be beneficial but isn’t essential.

The Opportunity

You’ll join a growing environmental consultancy with an established client base, a strong reputation for technical excellence and a collaborative working culture. With hybrid working and the choice of five UK office locations, this role offers the opportunity to influence the direction of a developing service line, strengthen client relationships and play a key part in the business’s continued growth. A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package are on offer, including enhanced pension, private medical insurance, flexible working, additional annual leave options and ongoing professional development.
