Allen & York are working with one of the UK's foremost providers of mobile and digital infrastructure. Its national estate underpins the connectivity that millions of people, businesses and essential services rely on every day. With ambitious plans for growth and transformation, it is now appointing a Health and Safety Director to set the direction for safety across the whole organisation.

This is a board-facing role with real authority and influence. You will be the principal adviser to the Board and Senior Leadership Team, and you will have the mandate and resources to shape strategy, strengthen governance and lead a step change in safety culture across a complex, high-risk, contractor-led operating environment.

You will own the company-wide health and safety strategy, governance and assurance framework. You will lead a capable team of specialists and work with operational leaders, customers and a large supply chain to protect everyone affected by the business's activities. Your remit includes:

  • Setting the health and safety strategy, annual plan and risk-based assurance programme, aligned with business priorities and risk appetite.

  • Advising the Board and governance committees on legal duties, material risks and the decisions needed to control them.

  • Overseeing a national asset base, making sure inspection, prioritisation and remediation programmes keep pace with asset condition and risk.

  • Directing the control of high-hazard activities, including work at height, electrical safety, lifting operations, driving and construction.

  • Leading serious incident response, investigation, regulatory engagement and organisation-wide learning.

  • Strengthening contractor assurance from pre-qualification through to performance management and intervention.

  • Maintaining an ISO 45001-aligned management system and providing insightful reporting on leading and lagging indicators.

  • Representing the organisation with customers, shareholders, regulators and industry forums.

You are an established senior health and safety leader who has operated at or near board level in a multi-site infrastructure, telecoms, utilities, construction or similarly high-risk environment. You combine deep technical credibility with commercial judgement, and you can turn complex legal and technical issues into clear business decisions.

You are likely to bring:

  • Significant director-level or senior leadership experience in health and safety.

  • Expert knowledge of UK health and safety law, in a regulatory environment

  • A strong track record in contractor and supply-chain assurance for high-risk activities.

  • Experience leading serious incident investigations and engaging with regulators.

  • A proven record of changing culture, strengthening governance and delivering lasting improvement.

  • Chartered Membership or Fellowship of IOSH (or close to achieving it), plus a NEBOSH Diploma, a relevant degree or an equivalent Level 6 qualification.

You will join a business whose work is vital to national infrastructure, at a point where you can make a visible, lasting difference and the chance to lead a talented team with real investment behind it.
