A unique opportunity has arisen for a Project Manager (Environmental Scientists). You will be responsible for supporting the management team in the delivery of contaminated land and groundwater remediation projects, including domestic and commercial oil spill response, broader commercial remediation works and invasive plant species eradication. Acting as Environmental Scientists, you will manage projects from start to finish, including Phase I and Phase II site investigations, report preparation, cost proposals, development of risk assessments and method statements, ongoing progress reporting, and validation sampling and reporting to confirm remediation objectives have been achieved. The role involves the management of projects relating to soil and groundwater contamination, and requires a strong understanding of environmental risk, remediation techniques, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the management team in delivering contaminated land and groundwater remediation projects, including domestic and commercial oil spill incidents, commercial remediation schemes, and invasive plant species eradication.
  • Act as the lead Environmental Scientist on assigned projects, managing delivery from initial investigation through to completion, including site characterisation, remediation strategy development, implementation, and validation.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders including sub-contractors, suppliers, regulatory authorities, local authorities, insurers and clients.
  • Provide site supervision of remedial works, site investigations, and groundwater/soil monitoring activities, including management of groundworkers and drilling crews.
  • Undertake and oversee environmental sampling (soil, groundwater, and where required surface water) to inform risk assessments, remediation strategies, and validation reporting.
  • Produce professional technical reports, including Phase I & II site investigation reports, remediation strategies, and validation reports.
  • Prepare cost proposals, risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for remediation and investigation works.
  • Operate and oversee the use of scientific and monitoring equipment on site.
  • Ensure works are completed in compliance with relevant environmental legislation, guidance and industry best practice.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience within a similar role, ideally as an Environmental Scientist or Project Manager within contaminated land and/or groundwater remediation.
  • Knowledge of UK environmental regulations, guidance and risk assessment modelling.
  • Experience or exposure to oil spill response (domestic or commercial) and/or remediation projects.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to delivering remediation solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively both on site and in an office-based/reporting environment.
  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Relevant environmental or engineering qualification (degree level or equivalent).
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel to regional project sites.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience with domestic oil spill investigations and remediation works.
  • CSCS Card (can be provided).
  • Chartership or other relevant professional qualification/s.
