This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced sustainability professional to join a fast‑paced, international food business supplying major UK retailers and food service customers.
Reporting to the Technical Director and managing a Sustainability & Ethical Sourcing Executive, the successful candidate will lead the development and delivery of sustainability, ethical sourcing, and ESG initiatives across a global supply chain.
Responsibilities
- Implement responsible sourcing strategies, with a particular focus on seafood supply chains, ensuring products are sourced ethically, sustainably, and in compliance with industry standards.
- Oversee supplier engagement, traceability, fisheries improvement programmes, human rights due diligence, and modern slavery compliance.
- Drive continuous improvement, monitor sustainability performance, and ensure alignment with company policies and customer expectations.
- Lead sustainability reporting by developing and tracking KPIs, preparing ESG reports, and supporting carbon reduction initiatives including Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions reporting.
- Monitor biodiversity and marine ecosystem developments, maintain supplier risk assessments, respond to customer sustainability enquiries, and build strong relationships with industry organisations and external stakeholders.
- Stay informed of emerging sustainability legislation and ethical trade requirements, ensuring compliance while supporting long‑term sustainability objectives.
- Travel as required to suppliers, factories, fisheries, and industry events.
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent experience in sustainability, environmental science, food supply chains, fisheries, marine science, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience managing sustainability, ethical sourcing, or ESG programmes within retail or food supply chains.
- Excellent stakeholder management, analytical, and communication skills.
- Experience with seafood supply chains, traceability systems, carbon accounting, modern slavery compliance, Sedex/SMETA, fisheries improvement programmes, or packaging sustainability would be advantageous.
- Previous people management experience.
