Our client, a well-established, multi-site manufacturer, is looking for a proactive Safety & Environmental Manager to lead the safety and environmental agenda at one of its major UK production sites. This is not a role for someone who wants to maintain the status quo. It’s for someone who sees an opportunity in every process, can win over a leadership team and a shop floor alike, and gets energy from driving lasting cultural change.
The role will drive measurable improvement in both lagging and leading indicators, from incident rates and risk reduction to behavioural safety, training and auditing.
You’ll act as Management Representative for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, keeping certified standards strong and audit-ready, and serve as the site’s authorised person for its Environmental Permit. You’ll also be the main contact with the HSE, the Environment Agency, local authorities and insurers.
Alongside this, you’ll own health surveillance in partnership with occupational health providers and collaborate with peers across the wider UK network to standardise processes, share learning and shape group policy. You’ll lead a small team and manage a budget.
To succeed, you’ll bring practical, hands-on safety and environmental experience from a fast production or manufacturing business or other high-hazard operational setting, along with a relevant qualification such as a NEBOSH Diploma, CMIOSH/IOSH membership, IEMA membership or a related degree.
Above all, you’ll have a proven track record of leading change, whether that means shifting behaviours and culture or making improvements that stick.
You’ll have the confidence to influence senior stakeholders, the credibility to engage teams on the shop floor, and a proactive, pragmatic approach that keeps things simple and puts safety first. In return, you’ll join a respected business that genuinely invests in safety.
You’ll have real autonomy at site level, backed by a collaborative national network, and room to put your own stamp on the role.
