We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Legal Professional to join our Global Financial Markets team, based in the A&O Shearman Belfast office.
The Team
A&O Shearman’s Advanced Delivery Legal (ADL) team plays an increasing role in delivering important elements of major litigation cases and transactions, as well as in coordinating teams of lawyers from around the world. ADL is a key part of A&O Shearman’s advanced delivery of legal services to its clients, making intelligent use of technology and complementing the traditional law services provided by A&O Shearman throughout the world. The ADL Belfast team includes specialists with expertise across Disputes, Corporate, Global Financial Markets, Real Estate, & Banking.
Our ADL Global Financial Markets (GFM) team comprises high-quality, tech-enabled associates and legal professionals. They provide cost-effective support on a range of matters, including debt and equity-linked capital markets instruments, derivatives, securitizations, and other structured finance work.
What you will do
- Develop strong working relationships with Partners and Associates from other offices, interacting with them on a daily basis as an extension to their team to understand and assist on current deals and cases;
- Manage and liaise with internal and external clients to address points of relevance or concern, resolve queries and issues, and report on progress;
- Manage the work of Legal Professionals within the team, ensuring that individuals are assigned to a particular matter have the required skills, knowledge, and support to deliver outputs that are on time and of the highest quality;
- Advise and educate Legal Professionals on points of commercial and legal detail including quality checking their work;
- Provide legal expertise, including drafting, reviewing, and amending documentation, document management, legal research, maintaining and improving templates and precedents; and
- Supervise, develop, and motivate Legal Professionals, instilling an excellent service delivery ethos and impeccable quality standards.
What you will have
- A qualifying law degree.
- Experience in a commercial environment such as a US, City, or major regional law firm or experience gained in-house with a bank or other financial institution.
- Experience in an area related to capital markets (straight debt or derivatives or securitization) is preferred – although applicants with a strong Finance background may also be considered.
- Experience of coordinating complex multi-faceted matters, including multi-jurisdictional matters.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Good relationship-building skills – a team player with the ability to establish credibility and inspire confidence with clients and senior colleagues.
- Demonstrate a high level of affinity with legal technology and a desire to expand experience in legal technology.
- Flexible, resourceful, and prepared to take a hands-on approach, comfortable operating in a rapidly evolving business and interested in shaping that evolution.
