Allen Lane is proud to be supporting a public sector organisation in the appointment of an IT Service Architect on a permanent basis. This is a key leadership role responsible for shaping how new IT services are designed, governed and transitioned into live operation within a complex, multi-supplier environment. This role sits at the heart of IT Platforms & Operations, leading the organisation’s service architecture and transition capability, and ensuring that new and evolving services are introduced in a structured, scalable and sustainable way. This is a hybrid role, with 3 days per week required onsite in Birmingham.
The Role
As the IT Service Architect, you will take ownership of the service architecture domain, leading both the design of services and how they are successfully transitioned into live operation. You will:
- Lead the service architecture and service transition capability, managing a small team of Service Architects focused on transition delivery
- Own and evolve the framework for introducing new services, ensuring consistency, governance and alignment to wider IT strategy
- Work closely with project and delivery managers to ensure new services are designed with operability, support and lifecycle in mind
- Partner with enterprise, technical and security architects to ensure service design aligns with broader architectural principles
- Embed ITIL-aligned service management practices across the service lifecycle
- Oversee the development and ongoing maturity of the IT service catalogue
- Ensure effective service transition processes are in place, enabling smooth handover from delivery into live service
- Drive continual improvement in how services are designed, transitioned and managed
Operating in a highly structured but evolving environment, you will build on an already mature capability, identifying opportunities to enhance, streamline and improve.
About You
You will be an experienced service architect or service transition leader, comfortable operating at the intersection of architecture, service management and delivery. You will bring:
- Strong experience in IT service architecture and/or service transition within complex environments
- A solid understanding of ITIL principles and service management best practice
- Experience designing and implementing service frameworks, standards and governance models
- The ability to work effectively with project managers, architects and suppliers in a matrix environment
- Experience operating in multi-supplier ecosystems, with an understanding of how to coordinate across delivery partners
- A focus on service quality, operability and continuous improvement
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at multiple levels
