Allen Lane are partnering with Mid-Sussex District Council on their recruitment for a full-time Property Solicitor to join their team.
Are you a skilled legal professional with expertise in property law? Join Mid-Sussex District Council\’s dynamic Legal Services team and play a key role in shaping the future of the Council.
What you’ll do:
Provide expert legal advice, representation, and assistance across the Council, including at public meetings.
Act as a trusted adviser to Members and colleagues on property matters such as acquisitions, disposals, licences, and landlord/tenant issues.
Negotiate and complete property transactions on behalf of the Council.
Contribute to structuring property deals and advise on Assets of Community Value, best value disposals, and Subsidy Control.
Represent the Council in legal proceedings, including advocacy where required.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation and case law through continuous professional development.
What they\’re looking for:
Fully qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive (Essential).
Strong experience in property law; local government experience is a plus.
Excellent communication skills and ability to manage a varied caseload.
High integrity, collaborative approach, and commitment to professional growth.
Ability to work flexibly and attend out-of-hours meetings when necessary.
Working knowledge of managing matters in the area of specialism (Essential)
Working knowledge of managing matters in the area of specialism in a local government context (Desirable)
Knowledge of the local government statutory framework and relevant current and emerging legislation, guidance, and best practice (Desirable)
Working within a legal team or practice (Essential)
Working within a local government legal team (Desirable)
