Allen Lane are proud to be supporting the London Borough of Camden in their search for a Lead Network Engineer.

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of London's most ambitious digital organisations, taking ownership of the network infrastructure that underpins critical services for Camden's residents and staff.

As Camden continues its cloud‑first transformation, you will play a pivotal role in designing, delivering and evolving a secure, resilient and high‑performing network environment.

You’ll lead a team of Network Engineers, act as the technical authority for networking across the organisation and help shape the future direction of Camden’s infrastructure strategy.

With significant investment in Microsoft Azure, SD‑WAN technologies and the upcoming implementation of Zscaler, this is an opportunity to work with modern technologies while influencing the next phase of Camden’s digital journey.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation and BAU operations of Camden’s enterprise network infrastructure across both cloud and on‑premise environments.
  • Act as the technical authority for networking, defining standards, architecture and best practice across the organisation.
  • Lead and develop a team of Network Engineers, ensuring the delivery of reliable, secure and high‑performing network service.
  • Drive Camden’s cloud networking strategy, supporting the continued migration to Microsoft Azure and modern network technologies.
  • Lead the implementation and ongoing optimisation of Zscaler, strengthening secure remote access and Zero Trust capabilities across the estate.
  • Design resilient, highly available network solutions that support business continuity and disaster recovery requirements.
  • Work closely with Information Security, Cloud Infrastructure, Architecture and Service Delivery teams to embed security‑by‑design across all network services.
  • Ensure compliance with recognised standards including ISO27001, PCI‑DSS and PSN, whilst continually improving operational performance and service resilience.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience implementing and supporting enterprise network infrastructure within large, complex environments.
  • Strong technical expertise across Cisco Meraki (SD‑WAN, LAN & Wi Fi), Cisco ACI, Palo Alto Firewalls, Microsoft Azure and Zscaler (desirable), with experience delivering secure network transformation projects.
  • A strong understanding of cloud networking, Zero Trust principles and modern security architecture.
  • Experience leading technical teams, mentoring engineers and acting as the senior technical authority for networking.
  • Knowledge of voice and communications technologies including Microsoft Teams, SIP Trunking and Session Border Controllers.
  • Experience working within highly regulated environments with an understanding of ISO27001, PCI‑DSS and PSN standards.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as CCIE, PCNSE, Engineering Cisco Meraki Solutions or equivalent would be advantageous.
